I’m thrilled that Kelly Hunter talked about my Ataecina painting in her latest video, while reflecting on the Full Moon Eclipse of 28 August. 

She shares the fascinating story around the discovery of the object that would eventually be named Haumea, with American and Spanish teams working with the astronomical data around the same time.

The Spanish team proposed the name Ataecina, but eventually Haumea, the Hawaiian goddess of birth and creation, became the official name. Ataecina was apparently not considered suitable because of her association with the underworld.

And this is where my own research and tuning into her story has taken me somewhere different.

For me, Ataecina is not simply a goddess of the underworld. She carries the whole cycle of life, death and regeneration , the movement from emergence into descent and back again. Almost like the journey from the Spring Equinox towards the Autumn Equinox, when life begins its return into the Earth.

So I’m sharing her here once more.

She refers to the paining in the minute 45 more or less but the whole converation with Ana Isabel is worthed a looking. 

I feel that tuning into Ataecina and her regenerative waters can support us through these transformational times,  reminding us that endings, beginnings, death and birth are all part of the same sacred cycle. 🌿
