Nature mark making, an easy, fun way to honour Mother Earth and celebrate the Full Moon of the 3rd of March 2026.

To honour the Virgo archetype and celebrate this Full Moon, I chose a ritual practice that feels very Virgo to me: simple, earthy, practical, and creative. Nature mark making.

It’s an easy and playful way to work with natural elements, make art, and reconnect with Mother Earth, without needing a big plan or expensive materials. Honestly, it started in the most Virgo way possible… by looking in my fridge.

Step 1: “What have I got?”

Because I was inviting a few friends over, I wanted to keep it simple and use whatever I could find easily. I ended up choosing:

  • turmeric

  • paprika

  • eggs

  • blueberries

  • honey

That was my palette.

Step 2: Making natural pigments (the kitchen witch version)

I mixed paprika with a little water to create paint-like pigments, And turmeric with egg and they were fantastic. Turmeric gave the most gorgeous yellows, and paprika turned into warm reds and earthy oranges.

Blueberries were the most labour-intensive process.

First, I crushed them with a mortar and pestle. Then I passed the pulp through a net to remove the skins (messy, but satisfying). I added a little water, and to thicken it I mixed in honey.

The purple came out much lighter than I expected, so in the end I added a little acrylic blue I already had at home to support it. (adapt, use what works, keep going.)

Step 3: Tools from the garden (and the veg drawer)

For mark making, we gathered whatever felt interesting to stamp, drag, roll, or press into the paper:

  • sticks

  • a bit of lavender

  • broccoli (surprisingly good!)

  • foliage and a few flowers we shared around the table

I also laid out a few paintbrushes and a roller with a plastic surface, which turned out to be a favourite.

Step 4: Making marks + talking Virgo

Then we just began: making marks, layering colours, experimenting, laughing, drinking tea.

While we worked, we spoke about the Virgo archetype, and its shadow: perfectionism, overworking, and that feeling of “it’s never enough”. It felt powerful to name those patterns while doing something grounded and imperfect on purpose.

It was a beautiful couple of hours.

When everyone left, the Moon arrived

After my friends left, the table was still full of materials and I still had a little time to keep exploring.

I started playing with collage too, cutting and gluing small pieces, looking at my own work and thinking about the beautiful art my friends had made. Then I looked out of the window and saw the Moon. Not full yet, but growing, brightening, pulling my attention.

And suddenly it was clear what my painting was asking for: I needed to cover the white. I needed night.

So I started using the roller with a leaf on it to create darker marks, building up the feeling of foliage against a night sky. I was trying to create texture… but the real magic came when I took another piece of paper and used it like a stamp.

When I separated the two sheets, the texture of the foliage appeared more clearly than I could have planned. I was genuinely delighted.

And then I did something that, for me, is the ritual in itself: I stopped.

I was happy with the piece, and I stopped there. It’s so easy for me to overdo it.

The practice (and the lesson)

So to celebrate this Full Moon, I chose this natural resources practice because it’s:

  • easy

  • fun

  • accessible

  • and surprisingly effective

It supported me in working with Virgo’s shadow, gently. Making something simple, letting it be enough, and noticing the moment when it’s time to pause.

And with Mercury retrograde in the background, it also brought reflection about communication: how much mental talk I carry, how little I sometimes share externally, and how I want to share more from a safe space, speaking from the heart.

Social media can feel tricky to navigate. I’m learning a new balance.

If you try it…

If this inspires you, I’d love you to try it too. Start with what you already have. Let it be messy. Let it be imperfect. Make a cup of tea. Invite a friend if it feels right. And if you can, look up at the Moon.

I’ll add photos and a video below.

Thank you for reading. 🌕✨
